About this project

## What this is A Russian localization (an unofficial fan translation into Russian) for the game The Midnight Walk by the studio MoonHood. The translation was done manually, with proofreading and editing; the meanings of puns and common nouns have been preserved, and some wording has been rendered in a literary style. The textures with the game title and chapter names were also redrawn by hand. The project is not affiliated with the official developers. ## What is included - Translation of the game text into Russian. - Redrawn textures (game title, chapter names). - Automatic installer (The.Midnight.Walk.RU.exe). - Archive for manual installation (The.Midnight.Walk.RU.zip). - Instructions for installing, updating, replacing, and removing the translation, including a separate section for Steam Deck. ## Installation Automatic installer: download the file, run it, if necessary specify the path to the game via "Browse", then successively "Next" → "Install" → "Finish". The installer can find the game path and automatically removes the Chillstream machine translation if it is detected in the game folder. Manual installation: unpack the archive and move the "TheMidnightWalk" folder into the game directory "...\steamapps\common\The Midnight Walk". Steam Deck: switch to desktop mode, download the installer or archive. For manual installation, the folder is moved to "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/The Midnight Walk". For the installer, it is added to Steam, and in its properties, forced use of Proton is enabled (the README recommends Proton 9.0-4). ## Updating, replacing, and removing Updating is done by reinstalling the new version — the installer replaces the old one. For manual replacement, the files are copied with overwriting. To switch from someone else's translation, it is suggested to clean out the "Paks" folder (path "\steamapps\common\The Midnight Walk\TheMidnightWalk\Content\"), leaving only the file "TheMidnightWalk-Windows.pak" (~16.5 GB). Removal: for manual installation — delete the file "RussianLanguage_P.pak" from the "Paks" folder; for installation via the installer — run "unins000.exe" from the "Remove Russian localization" folder in the game root. ## Links and feedback Builds are published on GitHub Releases, as well as on Yandex Disk, Google Drive, PlayGround, Zone of Games, and Nexus Mods. Translation errors can be reported via a Google Form; there are pages in Steam Guides and Steam Discussions. ## Disclaimer The translation is unofficial and fan-made, distributed free of charge for informational purposes. The rights to the game belong to the developer and publisher; installation and use of the files are done by the user voluntarily and at their own responsibility.
