About this project
LingoCue is a Windows desktop English learning tool specifically designed for Chinese users, combining YouTube video subtitles to achieve listening training, vocabulary accumulation, and contextual learning. It does not download videos but only extracts subtitles, automatically highlighting the current sentence during playback. It supports clicking words to check definitions, pronunciation, and parts of speech, and allows saving new words to a personal vocabulary library. Based on subtitle difficulty, new word density, repetition frequency, and the user's vocabulary mastery, the system intelligently evaluates learning suitability and provides suggestions such as "quick skim" or "watch directly." The built-in AI dialogue engine (supporting DeepSeek API or Claude Code CLI) can explain the meaning of the current subtitles. In addition to YouTube, it supports independent panel use and Jellyfin local media library integration. The installation package includes the Python environment, ffmpeg, and dictionaries for one-click deployment. The Chrome extension needs to be manually loaded once, and subsequent updates can be completed by refreshing the extension card. The project is open source and follows the GPL-3.0 license.
