About this project

Boxbot is a simple yet challenging Java game built with libGDX, where players manage a single warehouse robot tasked with fulfilling time-sensitive shipping orders. The core gameplay involves picking up colored packages (red, green, blue) from shelves or the loading bay and delivering them to correct destinations before their timers expire. Every movement consumes battery, requiring strategic recharging — which takes time and can't be canceled once started. Players can queue multiple actions and cancel pending ones. A delivery truck periodically visits to drop off new packages and collect shipped ones; players can send it away early to free up space, but risk leaving packages behind. As the game progresses, order frequency increases, making early safe decisions risky later. There’s no fixed end — the goal is survival as long as possible. The game supports pausing via Esc and ends when too many orders fail. Development requires Java 21+ and Gradle; configuration files allow tweaking gameplay values without restarting. Documentation covers mechanics like battery, jobs, movement, and failure conditions. Licensed under MIT, with bundled fonts under OFL.
