About this project
This repository gathers the author's Python scripts for generating high-quality figures intended for academic publications. The author is a Computer Science PhD candidate at Yale University, and the figures shown were used in papers published at venues such as Nature Machine Intelligence, ICML, NeurIPS and ECCV.
What it contains:
- Project-specific plotting scripts and outputs organized in figure_* folders, covering several figure types: bar plots for quantitative comparison, bar plots for composition breakdown, 3D spheres, radar plots, line plots, concept plots and trend plots.
- A 'Miscellaneous' section for figures only partially produced in Python, included to acknowledge the effort involved.
- A reusable 'scientific-figure-making' skill folder containing SKILL.md plus references on API/conventions (palette, helpers, export), common patterns, demos, design theory and tutorials.
LLM/agent integration:
The README explains two ways to use the skill with AI coding agents. The path-based approach requires no installation: open the repository in an agent such as Cursor or Claude Code and reference scientific-figure-making/SKILL.md and its references files in prompts. A prompt template is provided for generating a publication-quality figure script with consistent style and PNG/PDF output. Alternatively, the skill can be installed via symlink into agent skill directories (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex), with commands given for each.
The README also lists related papers with links and BibTeX entries, including ImmunoStruct, LM-Dispersion, VIGIL, RNAGenScape and Brainteaser. The repository is primarily a personal, reusable toolkit and reference collection for scientific figure creation rather than a packaged library.
