INSTEAD is an open-source text adventure interpreter written in C++, licensed under MIT. It loads games from local directories (.instead/games/) or zip-packed archives via command-line arguments, with GTK2/3 file dialogs for selection. Web resources include homepage, codebase, community discussions, and documentation. Built with continuous integration for build monitoring, supported by community IRC channel.
