INSTEAD is an open-source text adventure interpreter written in C++, distributed under MIT license. It loads games from local directories (.instead/games/) or directly from zip archives, with a GTK-based file dialog accessible via F4. Builds with GTK2/3 include this dialog for file selection. Developed by a community with IRC channel for real-time interaction, it includes continuous integration checks for build status monitoring.
