About this project

Ollin is a creative-coding framework for Swift on Apple platforms, rendered with Metal. It targets generative art, live visuals, and installations, running sketches on macOS and iPhone. The API blends the friendly setup()/draw() style of p5.js with the typed core of OPENRNDR and the structure of openFrameworks, reimplemented in Swift idioms. Key features include: - Live reload: edit a sketch file and see changes immediately in the running window. - Live coding on stage with OllinLiveCoding, evaluating code over visuals. - Production-grade output: linear-light compositing, HDR tone mapping, dithered output, analytic anti-aliasing, up to 8x MSAA, and OKLab color with gamut mapping. - Extensive built-in techniques: Voronoi, L-systems, raymarched SDFs, GPU fluids, computer vision, and more. - Motion-first design: draw() runs at display refresh rate, with easing, springs, keyframes, and noise. - Export options: stills, video, GIF, SVG, PDF, G-code, DXF, embroidery, print separations, STL/OBJ/3MF, USDZ, and recorded web pages. - System integration: generate signed Mac apps, screen savers, wallpapers, menu-bar strips, and widgets. - Installation mode for long-running pieces with crash recovery and scheduling. - Deterministic exports with reproducibility recipes and snapshot testing. - No package dependencies; vendored C/C++ libraries (Box2D, Jolt, etc.) with licenses intact. Ollin is Apple-only by design, leveraging Metal and native platform features. It is in alpha (pre-1.0) with a changing API. The repository includes a comprehensive guide, API reference, and over 500 runnable examples.
