About this project
Ludusavi is a cross-platform tool for backing up PC video game save data, written in Rust. It supports multiple game stores and provides both a graphical interface and a command line interface for scripting, with tab completion for Bash, Fish, Zsh, PowerShell, and Elvish.
Key capabilities:
- Backs up data for more than 19,000 games, plus user-defined custom entries.
- Backup and restore support for Steam, GOG, Epic, Heroic, Lutris, and other game libraries.
- Handles saves stored as files and in the Windows registry, Proton saves with Steam, and Steam screenshots.
- Works on the Steam Deck and is available as a Playnite extension.
- Uses the Ludusavi Manifest for per-game backup information, primarily sourced from PCGamingWiki.
Installation is portable: download the executable for Windows, Linux, or Mac from the releases page. It is also available via Winget, Scoop, Flatpak, and Cargo. Detailed help documentation covers topics such as backup automation, exclusions, retention, validation, cloud backup, custom games, duplicates, filtering, game launch wrapping, redirects, roots, selective scanning, transfer between operating systems, application folder, backup structure, command line, configuration file, environment variables, logging, and troubleshooting.
The README also notes community-created secondary manifests, plugins for Decky Loader, LaunchBox, and VS Code, and a GSM-to-Ludusavi converter. A comparison section discusses other backup tools, noting differences in platform support, speed, source availability, and interfaces.
