About this project
Cxbx-Reloaded is an open-source emulator designed to run Microsoft Xbox (original) games on Windows and Wine (Linux). It aims to eventually support Chihiro arcade games as well. The project is a continuation of the original Cxbx and Dxbx projects, with significant contributions from the XQEMU project for low-level emulation of the NV2A GPU and network hardware.
Key features include high-level emulation (HLE) of the Xbox kernel, support for a wide range of titles as documented in the compatibility list, and ongoing development to improve accuracy and performance. The emulator requires a Direct3D 9.0c capable GPU with Pixel Shader 2.x and Vertex Shader 3.0 support. It is built for 64-bit Windows 7+ or x86-64 Linux with Wine (32-bit not supported).
Users can obtain pre-release builds from the official website, and the project maintains a compatibility list where users can submit reports. Bug reports for specific games are handled on the compatibility site, while general emulation issues go to the GitHub issue tracker. The project has an active Discord community and a wiki with developer notes and background information.
Contributions are welcome, but the project has a policy against incorporating code derived from XQEMU until a mutually beneficial agreement is reached. Developers can build the emulator from source using CMake and Visual Studio 2022 on Windows; Linux/macOS builds are not currently supported. The project also acknowledges support from Xbox hardware research communities and provides tools like the XbSymbolDatabase for symbol detection across XDK builds.
