About this project

ROOT is a unified software package for the storage, processing and analysis of scientific data, from acquisition to final visualization as customizable, publication-ready plots. It is developed by the ROOT community and released under LGPL v2.1+. Key capabilities described in the README: - Efficient columnar storage system for data models, reported to scale to exabytes of scientific data at Large Hadron Collider experiments. - Histogramming in an arbitrary number of dimensions, curve fitting, statistical modelling and minimization for building data analysis systems. - Interactive or batch-mode querying and processing of data. - RDataFrame, a general parallel processing framework that can speed up analyses using multi-core and distributed systems. - Written in performance-critical C++, with rapid prototyping via Cling, a C++ compliant interpreter. - Cling also provides C++ type introspection, enabling automatic interoperability with Python. - Dynamic Python bindings based on cppyy offer on-demand C++/Python interoperability in a uniform cross-language execution environment. Installation instructions are available at root.cern/install, including building from source. Getting-started material, tutorials, a reference guide, a forum and an issue tracker are linked from the README. A live demo is offered for CERN users via SWAN, and screenshots are available in the project gallery. The README also provides citation information for academic use.
