About this project

ECHO is a desktop player designed for local music, emphasizing library management and playback experience. The project uses an Electron main process, a React + TypeScript rendering layer, typed IPC bridging, and SQLite for storing library data; the audio part is handled by Audio Core and native hosts, supporting system output, WASAPI Shared / Exclusive, ASIO, and other modes, connecting to headphones, speakers, and external DACs, while displaying information such as codec, sample rate, output device, and processing status. In terms of features, it provides local library, album and artist browsing, playlists, dynamic lyrics, and playback history; the interface includes cover art, albums, artists, recently played, lyrics, and queue, with support for dark, light, and multiple themes. The project also offers a bridge capability for integration with Wallpaper Engine, and the repository includes a web wallpaper example for creators to make wallpaper scenes. Distribution comes in two editions: Community and Steam. The Community edition is free forever with open source code, available from GitHub Releases; the Steam edition adds Steam updates, Cloud sync for some settings, achievements, friend status, and Workshop support on top of the local playback experience. The README shows screenshots of the Steam edition running with approximately 16,813 tracks and 1,856 albums, and mentions designs such as a low-spec mode and background task load reduction. Project documentation is at echonext.moe, and the repository also provides an English README.
