About this project
MiBee Cam Firmware is a production-ready firmware for AI-Thinker ESP32-CAM boards (ESP32-D0WD-V3 + OV2640), built on ESP-IDF v6.0.1 and licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later.
Core capabilities include MJPEG video streaming with snapshot fallback (limited to 2 concurrent clients), motion detection with configurable sensitivity and cooldown, SD card storage for photos and AVI video recordings, timelapse and burst capture modes, and smart flash control via LEDC PWM. Network connectivity features dual-WiFi failover with smart roaming and serial AT command WiFi setup. On first boot the device creates an AP (MiBeeCam) for configuration.
A REST API exposes complete device control: system status, configuration get/set, factory reset, reboot, single JPEG capture, live stream, recording start/stop, file listing with type filtering (photos/recordings), file download and delete, motion detection enable/disable, flash toggle, timelapse control, OTA firmware upload, and SPIFFS Web UI upload. A Prometheus /metrics endpoint reports uptime, memory, camera frame rates, WiFi signal, motion events, and brightness levels.
Hardware requirements: MiBee Cam board, OV2640 camera module, optional TF card (FAT), 4MB flash, 8MB PSRAM. The README documents detailed pin mappings and notes critical hardware constraints — GPIO14 shared between camera XCLK and SD card CLK, GPIO0 reserved for camera timing (no BOOT button), and mandatory full RF calibration each boot due to marginal PCB antenna.
The project structure is organized into modular C source files covering camera driver (DMA optimized), WiFi manager, NVS config persistence (version 9 schema), HTTP server, MJPEG streamer, storage manager, motion detection, health monitor, video recorder, timelapse, flash LED, and serial config. Documentation includes architecture overview, API contract, config contract, AT command reference, and a pitfalls incident library. No unit or integration tests are implemented; validation is through manual deployment and API testing.
