About this project

Mapforge is an open-source GIS web application that lets you create and share custom maps with your own data as GeoJSON layers on various base maps. It supports real-time collaborative editing via WebSockets, so changes sync live to all connected clients. Key features include 3D terrain, hillshade, contour lines, globe projection, drawing and styling shapes with customizable colors, symbols, labels, and 3D polygons, plus import/export of GeoJSON, GPX, and KML. It integrates with Overpass API for custom OpenStreetMap queries and openrouteservice for walking, bicycle, and car routing with elevation profiles. The app offers desktop and mobile UIs, PWA support, an Android app via Bubblewrap, GPS track recording through a built-in µlogger API, and login via Google, GitHub, or OSM OAuth. For privacy, it can be self-hosted with a Docker Compose file and has no ads or tracking. Built with Ruby on Rails 8, MongoDB, Redis, Action Cable, MapLibre GL JS, and Turf.js, it is licensed under AGPL v3 and serves as an open-source alternative to Google My Maps and Felt.
