About this project

JOMIZOO Can Eat is a static, open-data reference that answers whether hamsters, budgies or cockatiels can safely eat a given food. It provides 204 verdicts across 68 foods and three species on a four-level scale: Yes, Small amounts, Better not, and Never. Each entry includes portion size, feeding frequency, preparation steps, plain-language risks, what to do if a pet already ate the food, and a stricter note for diabetes-prone dwarf hamsters. Verdicts are labelled direct or inferred with confidence levels and cite sources such as VCA Animal Hospitals, Merck Veterinary Manual, RSPCA, PDSA, Blue Cross and peer-reviewed publications. USDA FoodData Central nutrition values per 100 g are shown on each food page. The site is built as a pre-rendered static site with no framework, so crawlers see full answers without JavaScript. An interactive three.js scene is lazy-loaded and reacts to each verdict with colour changes and pet animations such as hopping, nibbling, head tilting or turning away. All 68 food models are procedural, with no downloaded assets. The project publishes its data as CC BY 4.0 in foods.json, sources.json, nutrition.json and a generated verdicts.csv, plus llms.txt and llms-full.txt for AI search. A build script generates 212 pages, sitemap, robots.txt and JSON/CSV downloads, while validation runs in CI. The repository is maintained by JOMIZOO, a Japanese small-pet brand, and explicitly states the site is not veterinary advice.
