About this project
WitchyBND is a tool for unpacking, repacking and serializing the proprietary file formats used by FromSoftware's game engine. It targets titles such as Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring and Armored Core VI. It is described as a successor to Yabber, with a comprehensive rewrite, added features and community contributions.
Supported formats include DCX, FFXBND, BND3, BND4, BXF3, BXF4, FFXDLSE, FMG, GPARAM, LUAGNL, LUAINFO, TPF, Zero3, FXR1, FXR3, MATBIN, MTD, PARAM, MQB and ENTRYFILELIST.
Requirements and platform notes: game archives first need to be unpacked with a separate tool such as Nuxe to reach the files WitchyBND can process. It is stated to run out of the box on Windows versions newer than Windows 8; older versions may need .NET Framework 4.6 for context-menu integration, and Wine on Linux or unexpected issues may require the .NET Desktop Runtime. Version 3.0.0.0 added cross-platform capability with Linux support, though some features are unavailable and the oo2core binary must be supplied by the user.
Usage: the primary workflow is a right-click context menu integration that must be registered manually from the configuration screen, since there is no installer. Files or folders can also be dragged onto the executable, and large selections may need the "Send to..." menu. Processing a supported file unpacks or converts it; repeating the action repacks it. A separate (DCX) option removes only DCX compression. The README notes that Witchy should be treated as a new version of Yabber, preserving the original workflows.
Notable capabilities described in the changelog include: a self-update feature that can restart with previous command-line arguments and handle context-menu re-registration; configurable backup behavior (write if absent, overwrite, unique copies, or none) with a toggle for files inside Git repositories; deferred format support with presets for external tools such as SoulsModelTool and JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler; recursive and preprocess processing modes; ZSTD and Oodle compression handling; console TPF platform support (unpack/repack varies by platform); specialized binder handling for ANIBND4 and FFXBND; MSB and TAE serialization; and Paramdex updates for newer game regulations.
Licensing: GPL v3. The project is maintained by ividyon and is based on Yabber by TKGP, building on SoulsFormats and PromptPlus, with credits to numerous community contributors.
