About this project

item+ is an open-source inventory and collection management system designed for private households, collectors, and anyone who wants to track their belongings without warehouse software, SaaS overhead, or ERP complexity. It is built with a Go backend and a Next.js web application, distributed as a single server binary for self-hosting. The system provides two realms: Archive for stock-like items and Collection for value-oriented objects. Users can define custom categories, nested locations, vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers, along with dynamic properties such as text, number, date, select, multiselect, condition, rating, dimensions, weight, and priority. It supports bundles and related items for kits and grouped equipment. Lending and accountability features include active checkouts, due dates, returns, overdue tracking, item history, and permission-aware user management with admin-only areas. Attachments can be uploaded as photos or documents, stored as external links, or managed through SFTP sources with browser video streaming support. QR label printing works with TSC-compatible thermal printers, and scanning supports locations and items. An iPhone companion app provides camera, QR login, photo bridge, barcode handoff, and confirmation flows. An optional AI assistant named Ina supports OpenAI and Ollama profiles, per-profile prompts, local Ollama usage, vision toggles, usage statistics, and read-only inventory context. AI features are opt-in and the application does not perform automatic outbound update checks or background telemetry. The project is MIT-licensed and actively developed, with a focus on smoother self-hosting, improved AI workflows, and clear public packaging.
