About this project
PD Hybrid Synth is an open-source synthesizer that integrates multiple synthesis engines and filter types. It features a headless DSP core developed with a test-first approach, utilizing FFT and spectral analysis for verification.
Key capabilities include:
**Oscillator Engines**:
- Phase Distortion: Casio CZ-style synthesis with eight waveshapes.
- Analog-modeled: Bandlimited Saw, Square, Triangle, and Pulse oscillators using PolyBLEP.
- Vector PS: Vector Phaseshaping for formant sweeps and hard-sync timbres.
- Scanned: Scanned synthesis using a 128-mass spring ring.
- VOSIM: Voice simulation for vocal and speech-chip characters.
- Walsh: Walsh-function synthesis for digital, gritty tones.
- Additional features: Ring modulation, hard sync, phase modulation, and Karplus–Strong pluck.
**Filter Options**:
- Ladder: Moog-style 4-pole lowpass.
- State Variable: 12 dB/oct filter with LP, BP, HP, and notch modes.
- PD Resonator: A damped quadrature resonator with phase-distortion.
- Comb: Tuned feedback comb/waveguide.
- Allpass: Cascade of allpass sections for transient dispersion.
**Additional Features**:
- Multi-stage envelopes (ADSR and CZ-style).
- Oversampled overdrive amp.
- Modulation matrix, chorus, reverb, and arpeggiator.
- GUI featuring a CRT output scope.
- Support for VST3 and Standalone formats across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
