akira

Akira is a native Linux design application written in Vala and GTK, positioned as a modern, fast tool for UI and UX design. Its stated audience is web designers and graphic designers who want to use Linux as their primary operating system, with the goal of providing a professional-grade design solution on that platform. The project is explicitly in early development and the README warns that it is not ready for production use. Alpha builds are offered for testing. Installation options include the elementaryOS AppCenter and Flathub Beta; the Flathub route requires adding the beta remote and then installing the akira package. Building from source requires a set of dependencies including GTK+ 3.0 (>=3.18), Granite (>=6.0.0), GLib, Gee, GObject, libxml-2.0, json-glib, libarchive, gettext, Cairo and Meson. On non-elementary distributions such as Arch or Debian, Vala plus the elementary theme and icon theme are also needed. The build uses Meson with a prefix and profile flag, followed by Ninja for compilation and installation; a development profile is available for making changes.
