About this project

GhurundEngine is a personal DirectX 12 playground: a game engine plus a set of tools and samples. It is the fourth iteration by the author, following earlier OpenGL, DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 engines. Engine - Written in C++ and HLSL. - Uses DirectX 12 for rendering, PhysX for physics, AngelScript for scripting, and WinAPI for platform integration. - The author lists ideas such as resource hot reloading, automatic shader parameters, a custom UI, and a keyframe animation system. - It relies heavily on Visual Studio features, so it cannot be compiled with GCC. Game / sample app - There is no complete game yet; the included app mainly serves to check that the engine works. Compilation requirements - Visual Studio 2019 - DirectX 12 - PhysX - TinyXML-2 - CRC The project was never intended to be portable. It builds only with Visual Studio and runs on Windows 10 with a DirectX 12-compatible graphics card. The README also collects knowledge sources the author used: PhysX and MSDN documentation, Microsoft DirectX Graphics Samples and MiniEngine, GPUOpen libraries and SDKs, X3DAudio, DirectX tutorials, articles on gamma-correct rendering, linear-space lighting, PBR and self-shadowing, plus books such as the HLSL Development Cookbook and Real-Time 3D Rendering with DirectX and HLSL.
