About this project

cpdown is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that copies the content of any webpage as clean, formatted Markdown. On YouTube, it can also copy subtitles as Markdown. The project is aimed at users who want to move web content into notes, documents, or LLM prompts without manual cleanup. Key capabilities: - Copy any webpage content as clean Markdown with one click or a keyboard shortcut. - Copy YouTube subtitles as clean Markdown with one click or a keyboard shortcut. - Extract main content using Defuddle or Mozilla's Readability. - Remove unnecessary HTML elements such as scripts, styles, and iframes. - Display a token count for the copied content, which is useful when preparing text for LLMs. - Keyboard shortcut support. Installation is available through the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons. For manual installation, the repository can be cloned, dependencies installed with bun, built with bun run build, and loaded as an unpacked extension from the .output/chrome-mv3 directory in Chrome or Edge with Developer mode enabled. Options include using Defuddle for cleanup, using Mozilla Readability for parsing, wrapping copied content in triple backticks, showing a success toast, and showing a Raycast confetti animation. Settings are accessible from the extension's options page. The extension is built with WXT, React, Shadcn UI, Sonner, Tailwind CSS, Defuddle, Mozilla Readability, Turndown, and tiktoken.
