XPipe is a desktop application that acts as a central connection hub for server infrastructure. It runs on your local workstation and builds on command-line tools you already have installed, such as SSH or docker, so no agent or setup is required on remote systems. Supported connection types include SSH (config files and tunnels), Docker and compose, Podman, LXD and incus containers, Proxmox PVE, Hyper-V, KVM and VMware virtual machines, Tailscale, Netbird and Teleport connections, AWS and Hetzner Cloud servers, RDP with gateways and VNC, Windows Subsystem for Linux, Cygwin and MSYS2 environments, Kubernetes clusters, pods and containers, and PowerShell remote sessions. Main capabilities described in the README: - Connection hub: create and manage connections from one interface, organize hundreds of connections into hierarchical categories, define custom shell login environments, run common actions such as starting/stopping systems or opening tunnels, and create desktop shortcuts or macros that open connections without the GUI. - File browser: browse and edit remote files using locally installed programs, elevate sessions with sudo dynamically, transfer files to and from the desktop, work across multiple systems with tabbed multitasking, open a terminal in any directory, and customize actions through scripting. - Terminal launcher: one-click shell sessions in a preferred terminal with automatic password prompt filling, support for common terminal emulators and custom command-line specs, compatibility with bash, zsh, fish, cmd, PowerShell and others, integration with tmux, zellij, starship and oh-my-zsh, split pane views, and connecting while the terminal starts up. - Scripting system: reusable shell scripts, templates and groups, scripts automatically available in PATH on remote systems, shell init environments, custom shells and connections, and scripts usable from the file browser. - Additional features: vault synchronization across systems and team sharing via a self-hosted git repository, data stored locally in a cryptographically secure vault with an optional master passphrase, secret retrieval from installed password managers, no external servers involved, an optional integrated MCP server for AI agent access, uniform desktop application handling for RDP, VNC and X11 forwards, and one-click tunneling of remote services. Installation is aimed at desktop workstations, not servers or containers. Packages are provided for Windows (MSI, portable zip, choco, winget, scoop), macOS (pkg, dmg, Homebrew), and Linux (deb, rpm, AUR, AppImage, NixOS, tarball, plus an install script supporting apt, dnf, yum, zypper, rpm and pacman). A separate webtop Docker image provides a browser-accessible desktop environment via KasmVNC. The project follows an open core model: the core in this repository is Apache-2.0 licensed, while some homelab/professional plan features and the shell handling library are closed source.
