Waline is a lightweight, open-source comment system designed for simplicity, speed, and security. It supports full Markdown syntax, enabling rich text formatting in comments. The system is backend-agnostic, offering flexible deployment options including cloud platforms like Vercel, CloudBase, Railway, Render, Zeabur, Netlify, and Alibaba Cloud ComputeNest, as well as self-hosting via Docker. Storage backends include PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, TiDB, MongoDB, CloudBase, and GitHub. Key features include email and social media notifications (WeChat, QQ, Telegram), Akismet spam protection, comment moderation (IP restrictions, keyword filtering, duplicate checks), multi-language support (i18n), user login (including social accounts), comment likes, sticky comments, and article counters. Waline is designed to be easy to integrate, with minimal setup required, and is licensed under GPL-2.0.
