About this project

OpenEditz (formerly DoubleClips) is a free, open-source, cross-platform video editor aimed at creators, with functionality inspired by CapCut. The desktop edition currently implements approximately 20% of the features available in its Android counterpart. Evidenced current capabilities: - Multitrack editing - Community templates - Cross-platform rendering (Windows, macOS, Linux) - A variety of effects - FFmpeg-based rendering pipeline (the app checks for FFmpeg support on launch) - Project portability via zip export/import between devices, avoiding the need for cloud-storage subscriptions to move projects between mobile and PC Requirements: - FFmpeg support (verified in-app on startup) - Rendering speed scales with device capability; functionality is intended to remain consistent across hardware tiers Roadmap items (not yet implemented, marked WIP or planned): - 3D scene editing via Rajawali — currently bundled but not fully functional; planned to support 3D text and JSON-attached scene clips alongside the traditional FFmpeg pipeline - AI-generated content and an AI editing agent for text suggestions, effect recommendations, and JSON project-property edits (resource-constrained, seeking support) - Expanded platform support beyond Android (iOS/macOS/Windows/Linux) - Version control (GitHub-style), private team projects, built-in team chat, and real-time collaborative editing with visible cursors (Figma/Canva/Google Docs-style) - Split distribution model: a store-distributed "DoubleClips" and a community GitHub-distributed "DoubleClips Community", with community features potentially merged via voting and review The project is licensed under a GNU license and welcomes contributions via a fork/branch/PR workflow. The maintainer accepts donations via Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, PayPal, Bitcoin, Solana, and USDT.
