About this project
Valence is a Rust framework designed for building Minecraft: Java Edition servers from the ground up. Built on Bevy ECS, it provides a game-engine-like foundation for creating highly custom server experiences, such as minigame servers. The project emphasizes completeness, flexibility, modularity, intuitiveness, efficiency, and staying up-to-date with the latest stable Minecraft version.
Key features include authentication, encryption, compression, block states, chunks, entities, metadata, bounding volume hierarchy for spatial queries, player lists and skins, dimensions, biomes, worlds, JSON Text API, inventories, items, particles, Anvil file format (read-only), and proxy support for Velocity, Bungeecord, and Waterfall. It also includes `valence_nbt`, a fast library for Minecraft's NBT format, and a Fabric mod for extracting game data into JSON files used to generate Rust code.
Valence is early in development, with many features incomplete, and users should expect bugs and breaking changes. It can be added as a dependency via crates.io or as a git dependency for the latest development version. Examples like `parkour`, `game_of_life`, `terrain`, and `cow_sphere` demonstrate its capabilities. Contributions are welcome, and the project is MIT-licensed (logo under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
