About this project
Unicorn Engine is a lightweight, multi-platform, multi-architecture CPU emulator framework built on QEMU. It provides a clean, simple, and architecture-neutral API for CPU emulation, supporting ARM, ARM64 (ARMv8), M68K, MIPS, PowerPC, RISCV, SPARC, S390X, TriCore, and x86 (16, 32, 64-bit).
Key features include:
- Multi-architecture support across a wide range of CPU families
- Clean, intuitive, and lightweight API that is architecture-neutral
- Implemented in pure C with bindings for Crystal, Clojure, Visual Basic, Perl, Rust, Ruby, Python, Java, .NET, Go, Delphi/Free Pascal, Haskell, Pharo, Lua, and Zig
- Native support for Windows and Unix-like systems (macOS, Linux, Android, BSD, Solaris)
- High performance via Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation
- Fine-grained instrumentation at various levels
- Thread-safe by design
- Released under the GPLv2 license
Unicorn is widely used in security research, reverse engineering, malware analysis, and fuzzing. It allows developers to emulate CPU instructions without needing full system emulation, making it ideal for analyzing binary code, building emulators, and creating security tools.
The project is actively maintained and welcomes contributions. Documentation for compilation and usage is available in the docs directory, and a FAQ addresses common questions. The project also has a Telegram group for community support.
