About this project

Baka MPlayer is a free and open-source, cross-platform multimedia player based on libmpv, with a Qt5 interface. Its design is intended to provide a simple, uncluttered environment for watching television shows and other media. The project documents Linux build requirements including gcc, pkg-config, libmpv development files, and Qt 5 components such as qmake, Qt tools, Qt Declarative, SVG support, X11 extras, and networking. youtube-dl is listed as an optional dependency for streaming YouTube videos. Noto Sans is recommended because it is open source and covers a broad range of Unicode characters. The repository includes build and installation guidance for Windows cross-compilation from Linux, several Linux distribution helper scripts plus a generic configure/make/install workflow, and manual macOS installation using Homebrew dependencies. On Linux and macOS, the first run creates a configuration file at ~/.config/bakamplayer.ini. Translations are available when the project is configured with install_translations, and the source tree contains the supported translation files. Bug reports and feature requests are handled through the GitHub issue tracker.
