About this project
ZManager CLI (`zm`) is a high-performance, cross-platform file archiver for macOS, Linux, and Windows. It is the open-source command-line component of ZManager, sharing its Rust-based archive engine with the desktop GUI. The tool is designed to handle virtually any archive format for extraction while encouraging the use of secure, modern formats for creation.
**Key Capabilities:**
* **Broad Extraction:** Safely opens a wide range of archives, including ZIP, 7z, RAR, TAR variants, disk images (DMG, VHD, ISO), forensic formats (E01, AFF4), and package formats (APK, IPA, DEB, RPM).
* **Deliberate Creation:** Supports creating focused, well-supported formats: `.zip` (AES-256), `.tzst` (Zstandard), `.tgz`, `.7z` (LZMA2/AES-256), `.aar`/`.aea` (Apple Archive), and `.tzap`.
* **TZAP Format:** A modern, open-source alternative to RAR, featuring state-of-the-art cryptographic signatures, multi-recipient encryption, secure passphrase protection, and self-healing error recovery.
* **Security-First Design:** Enforces strict safety checks by default against path traversal, symlink/hardlink escapes, case collisions, and unsafe files. Passwords are handled via stdin or prompts to avoid exposure in shell history.
* **Dual Interface:** Offers both classic archive flags for familiarity and readable subcommands for scripting.
**Installation:**
Available via Homebrew (macOS), WinGet (Windows), and script-based installers (Linux). Release builds come in "full" (with optional online identity features) and "offline" flavors.
