About this project
DevChain lets you run a coordinated team of AI coding agents on your own hardware. It supports Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Antigravity, and GitHub Copilot, with each agent running in its own tmux session streamed live to a browser. Agents coordinate through a shared board, chat, and built-in code review, and can self-manage by planning work, adding coders, and selecting models per task.
The tool is local-first: state is stored in a local SQLite database and agents use your own provider accounts. A Planning team researches work before approval, while a Builders team executes epics and sub-epics. A live pre-commit diff provides inline comments, @mentions, and review threads. Session transcripts include token usage, cost, and a live context bar for every agent.
DevChain can move projects to remote VMs, including Proxmox, Ubuntu, or Debian machines, so agents keep working when your laptop is closed. File synchronization uses Syncthing, and the optional iOS/Android mobile app connects through an end-to-end-encrypted relay for chat, board updates, terminal viewing, and push notifications. ClickUp and Jira integrations import tasks as epics and sync statuses, subtasks, and time logging. Community skill packs from Anthropic, OpenAI, Vercel, and others can be synced for agents.
Installation requires Node.js 24 or newer, tmux, and at least one provider CLI. The project is source-available under the Elastic License 2.0, which permits use and modification but prohibits offering it as a managed service or competing commercial product.
