About this project
This repository contains a work-in-progress decompilation of Super Mario 64 DS, aiming to produce source code that compiles to a binary byte-for-byte identical to the retail ROM. It includes no ROM or Nintendo assets; all work is done against a user-supplied cartridge dump.
Progress is tracked via a live atlas and treemap, showing that 99.8% of functions (11,368/11,389) are matched, with 98.9% of code size matched. The project uses a pinned compiler (mwccarm 2004/b56) and a tiered approach: automatic templates handle simple functions, while hand-written C/C++ is used for complex ones. Near misses are recorded in a database, and additional checks (linkcheck.py and PR validation) ensure correctness.
The repo also includes readable C++ class hierarchies derived from ROM RTTI, and a tool called tangOS Console that assists contributors by coordinating work batches, verifying matches, and formatting pull requests. Setup instructions and contribution guidelines are provided in CONTRIBUTING.md and related notes.
