About this project
Cian (Comfortable Interface for Agile File eXplorer Navigation) is a lightweight, two-pane file manager designed for efficient navigation and file operations within the terminal. Inspired by the Japanese file manager AFXW, it combines a robust file explorer, a built-in shell, and a powerful text editor into a single binary. Cian supports both macOS and Windows, requiring no additional runtime or DLLs. The application offers two front ends: a terminal-based UI (`cian-tui`) and a window-based UI built with Electron, both communicating with the same core engine. Key features include fuzzy pickers for commands and folders, a text editor panel with Vim-like keybindings (or Notepad style), syntax highlighting, and support for viewing various file types including Office documents, PDFs, and images. It facilitates file copying, moving, and deleting with undo capabilities, background job processing with progress bars, and integration with version control and SSH remote panes. Additional capabilities include file comparison, duplicate detection, grep search, and optional AI-assisted code review and summarization. Cian handles Japanese input and encoding (Shift_JIS) automatically and provides mouse support for drag-and-drop operations.
