About this project
VDO.Ninja (formerly OBS.Ninja) enables peer-to-peer video streaming for live production workflows. Users open the web app in a browser, select "Add your Camera to OBS," and share the generated link with remote participants. Video transfers directly between peers in most cases, delivering high quality with minimal latency. A director control room provides group chat and scene management. Smartphones can serve as wireless webcams. The platform supports WHIP/WHEP ingestion and self-hosted SFUs for scalable deployments.
The repository contains the static frontend and sample IFRAME API apps. No build step is required; serve the files from an HTTPS-enabled static server. Local preview runs via `python -m http.server 8080`. Production signaling, TURN relay, Twilio call-in, and live translation backends are separate projects documented in install.md and turnserver.md. Optional TURN configuration samples are included for self-hosting.
Release branches receive only critical fixes; the develop branch aligns with the nightly alpha at vdo.ninja/alpha. Related projects include Electron Capture for improved window capture, Social Stream Ninja for chat overlays, Raspberry Ninja for headless GStreamer WebRTC, and Caption.Ninja for AI closed captions. Community support is available via Discord, Reddit, and extensive documentation at docs.vdo.ninja.
