About this project

This repository consolidates several reputable hosts files from sources like AdAway, MVPS, yoyo.org, and URLHaus, merging them into a unified hosts file with duplicates removed. It provides 31 different variants, combining the base adware+malware blocklist with optional extensions for fakenews, social, gambling, and porn categories. The project includes a Python script (updateHostsFile.py) to generate custom hosts files, with options for auto-updating sources, replacing the active hosts file, specifying target IPs, compressing output, and more. It also offers Docker container images for easy deployment, supports custom whitelists/blacklists, and includes unit tests. The generated hosts files work across all operating systems and are suitable for DNS-based content blocking.
