StitchIT is a browser-based application designed to convert dual-fisheye images from 360° cameras into equirectangular panoramas. It operates entirely on the client side using GPU acceleration via WebGL shaders, ensuring that images never leave the user's machine. This approach eliminates the need for server uploads, installations, or external processing services.
The tool provides a comprehensive suite of features for 360° image creation and editing. Core functionalities include automatic seam detection, color balancing, and alignment for dual-fisheye sources. Users can perform HDR merging by combining multiple exposures into a single high-dynamic-range source before stitching, or use frame stacking to average multiple captures for noise reduction. Post-processing options allow for adjustments to exposure, gamma, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and white balance directly within the interface.
StitchIT also supports advanced editing capabilities such as adding watermarks or nadir decals to cover tripod holes, with options to adjust size and rotation. The application includes a real-time 3D previewer, allowing users to pan and zoom within the stitched panorama to verify the result. Lens profiles can be exported and imported as JSON files, facilitating consistent settings for repeated use with the same camera equipment.
Export options include JPG with embedded XMP metadata, ensuring compatibility with 360° viewers like Google Photos and Facebook, as well as lossless PNG output. An HD toggle enables 2x upscaling for higher resolution outputs, which can be beneficial for older or lower-resolution cameras. The interface is intuitive, with tooltips for controls and a straightforward workflow for opening, stitching, adjusting, and exporting images.
