About this project

Github Launcher is a desktop application for managing and running applications distributed through GitHub Releases. It was formerly known as the N64Recomp Launcher; the rename followed requests from the N64Recomp tool developers, and a legacy release aimed primarily at N64 recompiled games remains available. Users migrating from the old version must update manually by copying the new files into the launcher folder and deleting files with "N64Recomp" in their names; existing settings remain compatible. Core capabilities: - Automated updates: downloads and installs the latest releases from GitHub. - Version management: checks versions automatically and keeps installed apps current. - App management: an interface for browsing, downloading and launching GitHub-hosted apps. - GitHub Releases integration for update retrieval. Requirements and installation: the launcher needs the .NET 9 runtime and an internet connection for updates and downloads. Installation consists of downloading the latest release archive, extracting it to a chosen location and running the executable. On startup the launcher automatically checks for updates; users then browse their app library, select an app and use the Download/Launch action. Configuration: a personal GitHub API token can be supplied in settings to avoid API rate limits. The README states that no special permissions are required and that the token should not be shared. The app library is defined in an apps.json file, which is entirely user-managed and editable; there are no built-in stable, experimental or custom categories. Each entry requires a name (display name), repository (in username/repository form), folderName (download/install folder) and appIconUrl (icon image URL, or null to use a default icon). The README includes a JSON example with two sample entries. Support is handled through the project's GitHub issue tracker. The project is licensed under a license file in the repository and targets .NET 9.
