About this project
MixCanvas is a specialized DJ mixing tool for Windows designed for pre-party mix preparation rather than live performance. It allows users to arrange MP3s on a three-lane musical timeline with a focus on precision and offline privacy.
Key capabilities include:
- Timeline Editing: A beat-based timeline with three stereo tracks, supporting drag-and-drop placement, beat/bar snapping, and a global tempo map for beatmatched transitions.
- Audio Analysis: Automatic BPM, beatgrid, and downbeat analysis with a dedicated editor for manual corrections.
- Automation & Effects: Volume, pan, and smart filter automation. It features five recordable effects per track (Reverb, Flange, Crush, Delay, and an Eraser) that can be played by hand and written to the timeline.
- Advanced Audio Tools: 32-bit floating point processing, three-band EQ per clip, sidechain compression, a master glue compressor, and a mastering limiter for final exports.
- Stem Separation: Local vocal and instrumental separation using Open-Unmix.
- Export Options: Ability to bounce finished mixes to 16-bit WAV or 320 kbps MP3.
The application is built with Tauri, React, TypeScript, and Rust, requiring the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. It operates entirely locally with no cloud requirements or telemetry.
