arelis

Arelis is a personal research assistant for Windows that runs entirely on the user's PC. It uses a local model through Ollama, with no account, no cloud chat API, and no data leaving the machine. It searches the web, drives its own separate browser window, and keeps longer projects organized in named rooms. Anything that writes a file or sends a message waits for approval first. Capabilities described in the README include web search and page reading, a separate browser window, working in approved folders, voice listening and speaking with wake word and dictation, image viewing, editing and local ComfyUI generation, opt-in email, texting through an Android phone, and calendar, scheduled jobs, reminders, fact and task tracking, document handling for PDF, Word, Excel and markdown, plus math, unit conversions, charts and code snippets. Mail, calendar and texting stay off until connected, and write or send actions show an approval card. Requirements are Windows 10 or later 64-bit, Ollama, a chat model such as qwen3.5:9b, 8-16 GB graphics card recommended, and about 640 MB disk space for the program plus models. The installer is not code-signed, so SmartScreen warns on first run; a SHA-256 file is provided for verification. Installation is per-user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Arelis with no administrator prompt. First run asks for an allowed folder, then downloads Ollama and the chat model if needed, plus voice weights. Running from source needs Python 3.11+ and Ollama, with optional extras for voice, browser, spatial and astro features. Records live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Arelis, the workspace is the chosen folder, and installed copies and source checkouts keep separate profiles. Uninstall removes the program and scheduled tasks and asks whether to delete records. Optional mail, phone and calendar features are configured through example YAML files and stay hidden until connected. The interface includes chat, composer and docks for thinking, files, history, contacts and notifications, with rooms for named project spaces, fast and research roles, and a /tools command listing available actions. Memory is managed in Settings with dated backups kept for two weeks. Source-only features include a 3D solar system and Earth view inside Reality. Known limitations note that voice timing, the phone app and image generation have mainly been tested on the author's hardware. The project is maintained by one person as a hobby project and is licensed AGPL-3.0-or-later.
