Live Smith is a beta AI agent extension for Ableton Live that enables users to interact with their music production environment through natural language conversation. By selecting a track, Clip, device, or other supported Live object and choosing "Ask Live Smith," users can inspect, create, and edit MIDI parts, organize tracks and Scenes, adjust mixer settings, and work with samples and native Live devices—all through a conversational interface. The tool supports multiple AI model connections including Direct API integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Gemini (via its OpenAI-compatible endpoint), as well as experimental account subscription sign-ins for ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Antigravity. Users can save multiple models in a single connection Profile and switch between them and reasoning levels directly from the composer. Hosted Web Search is available through compatible Direct API connections. For audio generation, Live Smith integrates with ElevenLabs for music and sound effect generation, Mureka for prompt-based instrumental and song generation, the official Suno Platform API, and an experimental Suno.com account connection that uses the user's existing subscription credits. The Suno.com connection supports importing songs, extending them, and auditioning through an embedded player. For audio separation, a LALAL.AI connection allows extracting vocals, drums, bass, piano, or guitars from audio attachments or isolated Arrangement Audio Clip ranges. The tool features granular edit scope controls (MIDI, Audio, Devices, Mixer, Structure) and three approval modes (Manual, Low Risk, Accept Everything) to give users precise control over what changes the AI can make. Sessions keep conversation and action history with their Live context, and built-in Skills provide musical workflow guidance for section energy, variation, and instrument roles. Attachments support images, documents, and audio files, with model-specific capability verification. Privacy is maintained through local storage of profiles, sessions, attachments, and credentials. The tool does not run arbitrary model-generated code and does not inspect or edit Automation, browse installed presets, or load VSTs by plugin identifier. Network proxy support includes No proxy, System proxy, and Manual proxy modes with strict routing behavior.
