About this project
LidAngleSensor is a small utility for macOS that reads the lid angle sensor found in recent MacBook Pro models. The app shows the current angle in degrees and optionally plays a creaking door sound when the lid is moved slowly. It was introduced with the 2019 16‑inch MacBook Pro and is reported to work on newer models, though it does not function on M1/M2 devices according to the author. The sensor may not appear on some configurations; a diagnostic script is provided to identify the correct sensor. The sound effect originates from LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. The app can be installed via Homebrew with `brew install lidanglesensor`. Building from source requires Xcode (tested with Xcode 26). The project includes a Python library alternative at https://github.com/tcsenpai/pybooklid. Known problematic models include M1 MacBook Air and M1/M2 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. The author notes that the audio quality is not professional and the sound can be disabled by not clicking "Start Audio".
