About this project

This repository provides the installer and release bundle for **ReCasaOS**, an independent, community-maintained distribution of CasaOS, a personal-cloud operating system. It is not affiliated with IceWhale, the original upstream project, which stopped shipping in 2025. The installer builds on alvins82's fork to keep CasaOS installable on Docker 29 and Ubuntu 26, adding features like authenticated shares, a Compose editor, TLS support, and a fully CI-driven release pipeline. ## Installation Install with a single command: ```bash curl -fsSL https://github.com/ReCasaOS/CasaOS-Install/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sudo bash ``` Supported architectures: amd64, arm64, and arm/v7. The installer detects the distribution and architecture at runtime. Ubuntu 26 is supported but not required. Running the same command on an existing installation upgrades it, and installations from alvins82's or IceWhale's installers can be migrated the same way. After migration, the in-app updater follows this distribution's releases; do not use `get.casaos.io/update` afterward, as it installs IceWhale's frozen component bundle. ## Security and Verification Every package the installer downloads is verified against a SHA-256 digest before extraction, and all downloads come from ReCasaOS releases. Digests are written into `install.sh` at release time from checksums published by each component, or computed from the package as published for components without checksums. The uninstall script is verified the same way. ## Release Highlights (v0.4.98 to v0.4.65) The changelog documents a series of improvements and fixes across versions, including: - **v0.4.98**: Core reports its own version tag correctly. - **v0.4.97**: Security release—message bus stops unauthenticated requests, updated Go and dependencies, folder downloads stream, smaller LocalStorage. - **v0.4.96**: Malformed requests to disk-formatting calls are refused with a 400 instead of crashing. - **v0.4.95**: `casaos -v` reports the actual installed version. - **v0.4.94**: Backups wait for their turn during app install/update/deploy instead of failing. - **v0.4.93**: Fixed a memory corruption crash in network counters of the hardware widget. - **v0.4.92**: Deploy apps from git repositories or adopt existing folders; automatic rebuilds and rollback. - **v0.4.91**: Container hooks (`post_start`, `pre_start`) now run. - **v0.4.90**: Stacks run with `docker compose up` are listed as apps; Compose v5.5.1 support. - **v0.4.89**: Binaries built without UPX packing, fixing startup failures. - **v0.4.88**: Widget reordering, RAID arrays counted once, install check for Docker. - **v0.4.87**: App Store catalogue fallback updated to match IceWhale's current store. - **v0.4.86**: "Update every app" feature with per-image details and sequential updates. - **v0.4.85**: Sessions persist across restarts; signing key stored on disk. - **v0.4.84**: HTTPS on 443 with self-signed certificate, backup retention, catalogue fallback. - **v0.4.83**: Loopback authentication fixed; Go updated to 1.26. - **v0.4.82**: PsiTransfer and ayon apps restored; store works with third-party catalogues. - **v0.4.81**: Fixed backup restore path mapping. - **v0.4.80**: Full box backup and restore (users, shares, schedules, destinations). - **v0.4.79**: Backup progress cards, encryption via rclone crypt, pruning. - **v0.4.78**: Fixed fresh install failures from message bus database folder issues. - **v0.4.77**: Restore apps from any destination with compose file and data. - **v0.4.76**: Fixed API restore flag mapping. - **v0.4.75**: Restore backups from History with data replacement. - **v0.4.74**: Fixed backup inventory for apps without `.env` files. - **v0.4.73**: First install check found and fixed backup recording issue. - **v0.4.72**: rclone pinned to v1.75.1; CI installs and backs up on every release. - **v0.4.71**: Fixed update progress cards and related issues. - **v0.4.70**: Show share access levels and manage accounts. - **v0.4.69**: Share dialogs now ask for access level (guest or account). - **v0.4.68**: Fixed settings panel width. - **v0.4.67**: Better handling of non-CasaOS containers with details and actions. - **v0.4.66**: Backups to S3/SFTP/FTP with rclone; fixed greyed-out apps. - **v0.4.65**: Fixed status display for hand-written compose stacks; removed IceWhale branding from binaries. ## Development and Testing Each release is tested by an install check that runs on a clean Ubuntu VM, installing the bundle, registering a user, installing an app, creating an rclone destination, taking a backup, and verifying the files. The check also tests restore functionality and refuses releases with known failure patterns in install logs. ## Support This is a community project.
