RootVine MCP is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that acts as a neutral commerce resolution layer for AI agents such as Claude and ChatGPT. Given a song or album, it returns ranked places to stream, buy digitally, or buy physical media, with direct links and prices where available. What it does When a user asks an agent where to listen to a track, RootVine resolves the query across major streaming, purchase and physical platforms and returns ranked results. The README states that music is live today, while games, books, films, podcasts and live events are planned as separate verticals. Neutrality Ranking is described as a deterministic server-side function: trust tier, then price, then availability, then freshness, then merchant ID. The README says commission rates, affiliate networks and sponsored flags are architecturally excluded from the ranking function, and that there are no ads, sponsored placements or pay-to-rank. The package itself is described as a thin client. Tools - discover_music: browse curated collections such as charts, genre walls, moods, editorial playlists, artist spotlights, and historic chart archives back to 1946. Modes are selected by arguments: no args for an overview, chamber for a list of walls, wall for a specific collection, year for a frozen chart snapshot. Entries carry attribution such as editorial curation or scrobble-based data. - resolve_artist: returns an artist profile, genres and discography, with slugs usable by resolve_music. Physical formats such as vinyl, CD and Discogs listings are album-level products. Response fields flag when an artist is not yet indexed or when a sparse fallback was applied. - resolve_music: returns ranked streaming, digital purchase and physical media options, including prices, direct links and affiliate-tagged click-through URLs. - resolve_game: registered but not yet active; returns a coming-soon response until the games vertical launches. - find_product: a router that detects category and routes to the correct resolver; music works today, other categories are planned. Response format Results follow a RootVine v1 specification with a rootvine metadata block, status, query details and a results array. Each result includes rank, merchant, trust tier, price, URL, click URL, type and a ranking reason code and summary. Setup For Claude Desktop, add an mcpServers entry using npx with the rootvine-mcp package and restart. Other MCP-compatible clients can run the server over stdio with npx rootvine-mcp.
