czkawka

Czkawka (Polish for "hiccup") is a free, open-source, multiplatform utility for removing unnecessary files from a computer. It is written in memory-safe Rust with almost no unsafe code, and relies on multithreading and efficient algorithms for speed. It runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, FreeBSD, and architectures including x86, ARM and RISC-V, with an Android build as well. The project states it has no Internet access and collects no user information or statistics. Frontends and components: - Krokiet: the current-generation GUI built with Slint, described as simple, multiplatform and fast. Tools included: - Duplicates: finds duplicates by file name, size or hash. - Empty Folders: finds empty folders using an advanced algorithm. - Big Files: finds the largest files in a given location. - Empty Files: searches for empty files across a drive. - Temporary Files: locates temporary files. - Similar Images: finds images that are not exactly identical, e.g. differing resolution or watermarks. - Similar Videos: looks for visually similar videos, by audio or by frames. - Same Music: finds similar music by tags or by comparing content. - Invalid Symbolic Links: shows symlinks pointing to non-existent targets. - Broken Files: finds invalid or corrupted files. - Bad Extensions: lists files whose content does not match their extension. - Exif Remover: strips Exif metadata from various file types. - Video Optimizer: crops static parts and converts videos to more efficient formats. - Bad Names: finds files with potentially unwanted names, such as those containing special characters. Other characteristics: cache support makes repeat scans faster; a portable version is available; the interface is multilingual; and the README includes a feature comparison table against FSlint, DupeGuru and BleachBit, noting that Czkawka GTK is no longer in active development while Krokiet and Cedinia are.
