About this project

Exponaut is a 2D platformer built around competitive scoring rather than pure completion. Levels are described as simple and easy to finish, but designed to be highly replayable once players understand the scoring mechanics. The core hook is a complex combo system for collectibles. Version 0.9.5 is identified as the point where the project committed fully to this idea, pairing it with an online leaderboard. Players can compete for the best score on each level and watch replays of how top scores were achieved through a playback system. Version 0.9.4 was a major overhaul focused on improving code quality across nearly every part of the project. Version 0.9.6 is stated to be the final state of the project as a 2D platformer, with the author indicating it will transform into something that uses its existing systems more effectively. Beyond the scoring layer, the README lists several engine-level features: advanced saving and loading support, nonlinear area transitions where every object's state persists between areas, smooth background layer replacement behaviour, a scoring system, and an entity editor for creating complex object behaviour. Distribution is via a downloadable zip from GitHub Releases, with an itch.io page and a Discord community also provided. The README is written in English and is primarily a project announcement and feature overview rather than technical documentation.
