About this project
Pantry is a modern dependency manager that combines system-wide package management with project-aware environment isolation. It installs development tools and runtimes globally, automatically configures PATH and shell integration, and supports macOS, Linux, and Windows. For projects, it detects dependency files such as deps.yaml, package.json, pyproject.toml, and Cargo.toml, then activates isolated environments with version-specific tools when entering a project directory.
The tool includes service management for 68 pre-configured services such as PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, Prometheus, Grafana, and Vault, with one-command start/stop, health monitoring, and auto-configuration. It also provides commit publishing as a pkg-pr-new alternative, paid package support with Stripe Connect payouts, team features like build insurance, advisory alerts, and SBOM export, plus private registry hosting using one Bun process and an S3-compatible bucket.
Pantry ships a native Zig CLI with pre-built binaries from CDN and hosts its own package registry containing 1700+ system packages, 50+ desktop apps, and pre-built binaries. Installation is a single curl command, and a GitHub Action is available for CI/CD integration. The project is MIT licensed and credits pkgx and Homebrew as inspirations.
