EBookReader is a local e-book reader for Android that emphasizes offline use and privacy protection. It supports importing EPUB, TXT, DOCX, DOC, MOBI, AZW3, and PDF formats, and automatically performs encoding detection, chapter detection, EPUB compatibility fixes, and MOBI/AZW3 conversion during import. The library features include sorting by title, author, date added, or recently read, text search, and complex tag-based retrieval, with the ability to save tag conditions as named bookshelves. Batch operations allow adding or removing tags, creating associations, and deleting books at the same time. For the reading experience, users can adjust font size, brightness, theme, page-turning mode, and simplified-traditional Chinese conversion. The app provides table-of-contents navigation, chapter merging, page number caching, full-text search, and copy, share, highlight, annotate, and dictionary lookup after selecting text. Bookmarks, highlights, and annotations all support note editing and jumping. Text-to-speech supports the system speech engine and cloud synthesis compatible with the OpenAI interface, and can continue playing in the background with control through the notification bar. The offline dictionary includes built-in Chinese and foreign language entries and does not make network requests when looking up words. The AI reading assistant is disabled by default and requires users to configure an API key themselves. Once enabled, it can be used for whole-book Q&A, asking questions about specified chapters, introducing reference books, exporting conversations, and AI book breakdown. The breakdown feature generates chapter-by-chapter summaries, a whole-book summary, and extended reading based on the book type, and supports resumable progress and result retrieval. Other features include book detail management, reading statistics, book recommendation plugins based on the local library or online search, and data backup and recovery. Known limitations include no support for CBZ for now, PDF being in fixed layout, annotations not yet supporting export, and cloud sync not being provided.
