sionna

Sionna is an open-source Python library for research on communication systems, developed by NVIDIA. It is organized into three packages, each targeting a different layer of communication-system research. Sionna RT is a stand-alone ray tracer for radio propagation modeling. Its source code lives in a separate repository, and it shares the requirements of Mitsuba 3; running it on CPU requires LLVM through Dr.Jit. Sionna PHY is a link-level simulator for wireless and optical communication systems. Sionna SYS is a system-level simulator built on physical-layer abstraction. Both require Python 3.11+ and PyTorch 2.9+, with Ubuntu 24.04 recommended; GPU support follows PyTorch's CUDA setup. Installation is available through pip: `pip install sionna` installs the full library, `pip install sionna-rt` installs only the ray tracer, and `pip install sionna-no-rt` installs the library without RT. Source installation uses a recursive clone and pip installs from the repository root. Tests run with pytest after installing the test extras, and documentation can be built with make after installing the doc extras, with a local serve target. The project is Apache-2.0 licensed and provides official documentation, tutorial notebooks that can run in JupyterLab or Google Colab, and a citation entry for academic use.
