About this project

NOVA (opeN sOurce Video plAyer) is an open-source video player for Android, forked from the Archos Video Player Community Edition to support new features. The main repository provides a manifest to fetch all needed git repositories and bootstrap the build environment. Key components include the Video UI code, media library management, file management, and a C core multimedia engine using ffmpeg. Building requires the repo tool, Android SDK/NDK, and various dependencies; prebuilt binaries for torrentd, ffmpeg, and dav1d are included to speed up builds. Scraping and scrobbling features rely on external services like TMDb and Trakt, requiring users to register and inject API keys. The app is available on Google Play, Amazon Appstore, F-Droid, and IzzyOnDroid. Contributions to translations via Crowdin and donations via PayPal, Liberapay, GitHub Sponsors, or OpenCollective are welcome. Support is provided through the Reddit community and LiberaChat IRC channel.
