OpenDesign is an open-source, local-first desktop application serving as an alternative to Anthropic's Claude Design, licensed under Apache 2.0. It is designed to work with existing coding agents rather than shipping its own, supporting 26+ local CLI executables including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, DeepSeek Harness, OpenCode, Copilot, Kimi, and Hermes, plus any OpenAI-compatible endpoint via bring-your-own-key (BYOK) proxy. DeepSeek Harness is supported as a first-class native runtime via the official dsh CLI, with features including structured streaming, tool calls, model discovery, cancellation, and session resume. The tool uses a DESIGN.md file as a brand contract, with 151 brand-grade design system packages included in the repository, plus 100+ functional skills, 277 plugins, and rendering templates that users can author, version, and share. It supports creating multiple artifact types: web, desktop, and mobile prototypes rendered in sandboxed iframes, live editable dashboards and decision rooms, multi-slide decks, generated images, and HyperFrames code-driven motion graphics. All generated artifacts are real, editable files, with export options including HTML, PDF, PPTX, and MP4. The desktop app is available for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows (x64), with Linux support currently available via running from source. It includes a Home page for brief composition and model selection, a Plugins page for browsing and launching official skills, a Design System page for extracting and refining brand visual language, and a per-project Studio workspace that keeps conversations, generated files, and live previews together for iteration. The official OpenDesign Cloud service provides access to agent models including GPT, Claude, DeepSeek V4, and image models including GPT Image 2.0, Seedream 5.0 Pro, and Nano Banana 2.0. The repository includes multi-language READMEs, 93 ready-to-use image generation prompt templates, 15 deck templates, 36 deck themes, and 11 HyperFrames video templates plus 39 Seedance prompts.
