Nextcloud Talk is a video and audio conferencing application for Nextcloud. It provides text chat with file sharing from Nextcloud Files or local devices, private and group calls, public password-protected calls, and federated chats with users on other Nextcloud servers. Screen sharing is supported, and the app integrates with other Nextcloud components such as Calendar, Contacts, Deck, Dashboard, Flow, Maps, and user status. Matterbridge integration allows syncing conversations with other chat solutions. The app can be installed from the Nextcloud App Store and works out of the box in most environments. A TURN server may be required for users behind strict firewalls or symmetric NATs; documentation and a setup script for the Nextcloud VM are available. The project includes user, administration, bot/webhook, and API documentation, as well as a development setup guide with support for hot module replacement during frontend development. Contributions are accepted through GitHub, with guidance on splitting large changes into smaller pull requests and separating backend and frontend work. Translations are managed through Transifex and synced automatically. The repository maintains branches aligned with Nextcloud server versions and uses milestones to track patches, major releases, and backlog items.
