About this project
Protolot is a clean-room, open-source Android application designed to convert simple hardware concepts into detailed build packs. It generates essential documentation such as wiring nets, bills of materials (BOM), assembly instructions, and CAD hooks. The app allows users to batch lots for manufacturing or prototyping and includes features for kitting.
Key capabilities in the current M2 release include:
- **Assembly Management**: Ordered step-by-step assembly lists with progress tracking and check-offs.
- **BOM Confidence & Overrides**: Displays confidence scores for BOM lines; low-confidence items trigger callouts and allow for part overrides via a dedicated sheet.
- **Vendor Integration**: Provides external links to major electronics vendors (DigiKey, Mouser, LCSC) without requiring API keys.
- **Lot Management**: Supports CSV/JSON import/export for lot data, using canonical headers like name, board, variant, MPN, qty, and notes.
- **Safety & Privacy**: Features on-device safety checks and allows Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) for LLM integration if desired.
The project is built with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Material 3, targeting minSdk 26. It can be built using Android Studio with Gradle 8.9. The app is licensed under MIT and branded by Copper Bench.
