About this project

YumaPlayer is an independent, open-source Android music player (GPLv3, Android 8.0+) that merges two streaming ecosystems with local playback. It presents Spotify-style personalized feeds, Daily Mixes and playlist import alongside YouTube Music catalog search, charts, mood and genre browsing, and radio stations, with fast switching between the two modes. Playback supports lossless FLAC streaming and downloads through a Qobuz-based backbone using your own credentials or community resolvers, with automatic fallback to YouTube Music high-bitrate streams (Opus/AAC) when a lossless source is unavailable. A built-in local engine handles on-device FLAC, MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV files. Automatic caching of played YouTube Music tracks enables offline listening; FLAC offline caching is noted as in development. Audio tools include a 5-band equalizer, system audio effects, EBU R128 loudness normalization, crossfading, tempo and pitch adjustment, and a sleep timer. Lyrics are a focus: a three-tier synchronized view shows original text, pronunciation guide and translation together, with karaoke-style word and line sync aggregated from multiple providers (LRCLIB, Kugou, BetterLyrics, SimpMusic, Unison, YouLyPlus), on-the-fly AI translation, and shareable lyrics quote cards. The interface uses the project's own YDS 2.1 design system: translucent glass cards, a dual-sheet gesture engine (swipe left for lyrics, right for queue), a scroll-linked morphing artist header, artwork-derived dynamic theming, and background task suspension to reduce battery use. Integrations include Last.fm and ListenBrainz scrobbling, Discord Rich Presence, Android Auto, home-screen widgets, and a Together mode for synchronized listening over WebSockets. Spotify Canvas, Apple Motion video backgrounds and Shazam-style music recognition are listed as in development. Privacy is emphasized: no subscriptions, ads, telemetry, crash reporters or third-party trackers; credentials are stored on-device encrypted with AES-256-GCM via Google Tink. The codebase is organized into roughly 18 Gradle modules following Clean Architecture and unidirectional data flow, with documentation covering architecture, modules, decision records and the design system. Localization is community-driven through Hosted Weblate. Builds require JDK 21 and a recent Android Studio; APKs are distributed via GitHub Releases, Telegram and Obtainium. The project credits ArchiveTune, Meld, Stash, Metrolist, SimpMusic, PixelPlayer, QBDLX, LRCLIB and BetterLyrics as foundations or inspirations, and states it is not affiliated with Google, YouTube Music or Spotify.
